Was casey inspired by anyone?
In 1949 she got her arts degree in Massachusetts College of Art, and then went to work on in fashion illustration, advertising, interior decorating and trade publications before joining MIT in 1955. During that time not much is known although i can imagine that her college tutors, fellow students, friends and early work colleagues may have influenced her poster designs, although there is a book called 'Posters Jacqueline S Casey Thirty years of design at MIT' it does mention that she was inspired by Karl Gerstner, Kurt Wirth and Anton Stankowski who were all pioneers in graphic design. Looking at her work it is obvious that she was inspired by the swiss designers that invented the grid method, or used it like these three designers. She was also inspired by the modernist movement and the International Style
Who was influenced by Jacqueline's work?
As Jacqueline worked at an Arts college and her work was often displayed at the college, it is very likely that students at the college will have been inspired by seeing her work and it may also be possible that her fellow workers could have been inspired too.
is any of my work similar to her own?
I have been doing Graphic Design for some time now, and i do not think that i have ever really been inspired by her own work, but i have been inspired or have similar work to her style. Examples include:
The photos above are a few examples of my own work which could be related to Jacqueline's style of work. This is mainly due to the layout of work and the use of the swiss grid method and the use of typography to make shapes.
